Ali and Ava: Yorkshire Bafta-nominated film actors, filming location and story as they hit cinemas
The Yorkshire-inspired film Ali and Ava is set to hit cinemas in days and has already won huge praise from film critics and been nominated for numerous awards.
The film was nominated for two BAFTA awards: Best Actor, Adeel Akhtar and Best British Film, it also won two BIFA awards: Best Actor, Adeel Akhtar and Best Music, Harry Escott and Connie Farr.
Producer Tracy O’Riordan said: “It was wonderful to be back in Bradford to shoot Clio’s fourth feature, a love story, based on people we met while filming our previous movies there.

“What if you took melodrama as a genre and applied it to a social-realistic version of Bradford based on real people? It’s an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be part of a community.
“There is a lot of kindness, generosity and support in Bradford and I wanted to see it big on the big screen.”
What are Ali and Ava talking about?
Ali & Ava is a beautiful love story about a couple who find themselves in their forties as they emerge from the wreckage of failed relationships.
Ali was born in Bradford to a Pakistani Muslim family. Ava was born in Bradford, white and from an Irish Catholic family.

As their relationship blossoms, the film explores themes around race, religion, and older love.

The film is set in the town of Bradford and is inspired by the people of Yorkshire, painting a picture of what it means to be part of a community.

My Mad Fat Diary actress Claire Rushbrook plays the lead role of Ava while BAFTA award winner Adeel Akhtar stars as Ali.
The cast list also includes Leeds actress Tasha Conno and Bradford actor Shaun Thomas.
