Drag queen Bianca del Rio has spent three years traveling the world and performing several times a week for thousands of fans. It’s hard for her to find a time to breathe out, but when she does, it’s the little things that make her day.

While she was killing time at a recent layover somewhere in the Midwest, del Rio found a bargain – 20 razors for $ 24. Yes. Even drag queens need a shave.

“I mean, this is a really good deal! Del Rio in a telephone interview. “It’s the little things that turn you on.”

Del Rio won the crown as the winner of season six of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in 2014.

Far from catfights and the shadows, Del Rio, real name Roy Haylock, grew up in Gretna, Louisiana, and is of Cuban and Honduran descent. Before adopting the alter-ego del Rio, Haylock worked as a costume designer.

Del Río, an insulting comic book, which describes her look as a cross between Joan Crawford and Bozo the Clown, is approaching the end of its American stage. Blame it on Bianca Tour. She’ll be at the Theater at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday.

In an interview with Q Voice News, del Rio talks about life after “Drag Race”, Judge Judy, and the sequel to “The Drag Queen of Mean”.

Here are some excerpts.

Globetrotter

“I feel like it’s been non-stop but, by the time I finished with (last year) ‘Not Today, Satan’ (tour), it had been a whole other year already,” says del Rio. “Fortunately, the demand is there and it is increasing. I have been to Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa. I haven’t done Italy or Spain yet, but I will be in Norway. I mean, who would have thought I would be in Norway? “

The ‘Drag Race’ effect

“I was considering quitting dragging at 40, and three years before that I decided to audition for ‘Drag Race’. I thought, what do I have to lose, ”says del Rio. “It’s been a great platform for me. After 22 years working in bars and clubs and spending the night with drunk people who might not care what you have to say, it’s a real pleasure that now I’m spending the night with drunk people who want to hear what you have to say. “

Meeting with Joan Rivers

“After ‘Drag Race’ I got to meet Joan Rivers, and that was – ultimately – the real highlight of it all,” said del Rio. “As a child, I remember watching his late night talk show, then his daytime talk show. Getting to meet Joan Rivers is one of those childhood things.

Judge Judy for President

“I have yet to meet Judge Judy (Sheindlin), ”said del Rio, who posed as a sharp-tongued judge for Snatch game “Drag Race”.

“When the movie finally aired, Judge Judy recorded something. She said I was a hoot, but RuPaul is still her favorite, but I love Ms. Sheindlin. I try to watch the show wherever I am. I never disagree with her. We need her as president and Suze Orman, that fabulous lesbian with the money, and Oprah just to make it fabulous. That’s who we need in the office.

The growth of the drag

“’Drag Race’ really helped get more people to flirt. Queens are falling from the trees, ”says del Rio. “That’s not to say they aren’t allowed to do it, but a lot of people think they can be on the show, and that’s it. This is not how it works. You either have it or you don’t. You still have to have the substance to back it up. You must have a love for the art of it.

Teenagers, grandmothers at Bianca del Rio shows

“It also attracted a larger audience. The spectacle humanizes us and makes us less threatening, ”says del Rio. “The point is that 80% of the time we have no brakes and we are ourselves. It’s quite interesting that now the majority of the public is straight. It’s the same with my shows. I have 13 year old little boys in heels and eyelashes who come to my shows with their grandmothers to see my dirty ass. When I ask them if they know the show can get a little dirty, they say, “Why do you think we’re here?” Okay.”

RuPaul and his apologies to the transgender community

“I grew up working with trans artists who were the fabulous show goddesses. I also grew up at a time when, back then, if you called a transgender person a drag queen, there was going to be a fight, ”del Rio says. “The infighting is a little weird. Honestly, nothing is resolved in a comment section. There will be someone who opposes it, but I’m not sure what the correct answer is for something like that because the lines have faded.
Upcoming attractions

” Following “Hurricane Bianca”, ‘Hurricane Bianca: From Russia with Hate’ will be released on May 18 as video on demand, ”said del Rio. “We have a great cast. Miss Shangela is back, as is Rachel Dratch. We also have heavyweights like Cheyenne Jackson, Kristen Johnston, and Wanda Sykes makes a cameo appearance. There are a lot of queens like Katya and Darien Lake. It’s gonna be fun.

New book, makeup remover

“I have a book coming out on May 22, “Blame it on Bianca del Rio: the expert on nothing with an opinion on everything. “ People have asked me: What makes you think you can give advice? Look, if that bloated Dr. Phil can give advice – and he’s not even a real doctor – then I can give advice, ”says del Rio. “This will be the honest advice you need.

“I also have a makeup remover,” she says. “Nobody ever looks at me and thinks about beauty, they think, how do I get rid of this shit. Bianca remover is available on Amazon. It is completely vegan and has never been tested on animals. The only animals he was tested on were the “Drag Race” competitors.
