Cast members of Scooby-Doo movie now – tense feud, co-star romance and Hollywood departure
It’s been 20 years since the live-action Scooby-Doo movie hit the big screen in 2002, bringing with it an epic adventure for the Mystery Inc gang.
The film has grossed over £228 million at the global box office, making it a smash hit with viewers around the world and propelling the cast to the forefront of acting talent around the world.
With Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar and her hunky beau, I Know What You Did Last Summer actor Freddie Prinze Jnr leading the ensemble as Daphne and Fred, it was the recipe for success thanks to their already crowded fan base.
Daily Star took a look at where the popular actors are now two decades after their wildly popular Mystery Machine adventure.
Sarah Michelle Gellar
The film’s heroine, Sarah, was already a big deal thanks to her long stint on television as Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
She filmed the film midway through her time as the famous vampire slayer which took place between 1997 and 2003.
Sarah has enjoyed endless success in film and has starred in several other high profile productions including The Grudge, The Grudge 2, The Return and The Air I Breathe.
In 2015, she co-founded her own cooking kit company Foodstirs, followed in 2017 by her own cookbook Stirring Up Fun With Food.
Sarah and her co-star Freddie weren’t just on-screen lovers either, with their romance also extending into their private lives after they met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
They married in 2002 and have two children – a daughter, Charlotte, and a son, Rocky.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Freddie was the perfect choice to star alongside his off-screen partner as the overbearing Fred.
Despite gaining huge popularity with his adoring fans thanks to his childish good looks, Freddie saw his Hollywood career fade a bit as Tinseltown snubbed him despite his success in I Know What You Did Last Summer and the romantic comedy She is all that.
Some poor choices on poorly rated productions such as Down to You and Boys and Girls.
Freddie scored a TV role with Kiefer Sutherland in 24, but he never made it back to movies and left Hollywood altogether to become a stay-at-home dad in season eight of 24.
He had failed to agree with co-star Kiefer and even went so far as to say he was “terrible” to work with and “the least professional guy in the world”.
Freddie began working behind the scenes with World Wrestling Entertainment and, like his wife, released a 2016 cookbook titled Back to the Kitchen.
He has also taken on several voice-over roles for games and movies, including Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
As Matthew starred as Shaggy in the 2002 film and its 2004 sequel, while continuing in the world of animated voiceovers as the franchise grew, he was surprised to find himself suddenly replaced in the role.
The actor has voiced the character in several video games, animated films, and several television shows, including Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, be cool, Scooby-Doo! and Scooby-Doo and guess who?
But in 2019, he was surprised to find out he hadn’t been hired for the role in the latest installment in the Scoob movie series!
Scream star Matthew has made no secret of his feelings about it as he admitted he only found out about it via Twitter and “Hollywood never ceases to amaze me”.

He later told AP, “Yeah, about SCOOB! I don’t have a lot of good things to say. I wish them all the best. Yeah, I mean, that was a drag. And I I was surprised [the recasting] past. Hollywood is an interesting place and I’ve been there for a long time.
“Some of them are easier to accept than others when you don’t have a job, but that one was a disappointment.
“I kind of like having a legacy in a career that’s been going on for 30 years.
“I like the fact that I was that part, and it’s a shame it happened in a different way.”
Matthew married Heather Helm in 2000 and they share three children, Addison, Liam and Macey.
Linda was best known as Scooby Squad brainiac Velma in the film and its 2004 sequel before moving on to more television roles.
She’s racked up quite an impressive resume with ER, Mad Men, Bloodline, Muppets Now, Hawkeye, and Dead to Me.
Her return to acting saw her starring in Brokeback Mountain, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Daddy’s House,
Avengers: Endgame and Capone.
She also turned to producing in 2019 when she acted as co-executive producer on Netflix’s Dead to Me.
Linda dated Jason Segel for five years between 2002 and 2007, but they eventually broke up and she started dating Steve Rodriguez two years later in 2009.
The couple share a five-year-old daughter, Lilah-Rose Rodriguez.
Australian beauty Isla has been cast as adorable tourist Mary Jane and lover of Shaggy.
Isla has a range of major film roles under her belt, including I Heart Huckabees, Wedding Crashers, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Now You See Me and Nocturnal Animals.
The former Home and Away star has also appeared in TV roles, including Rebel Ally on Arrested Development.
In 2022, she turned to producing for the first time on Wolf Like Me, which also sees its star as the werewolf, Mary.
Her 2016 book release Marge in Charge was a huge hit and she’s followed up with five more titles in the series since.
Isla married comedian actor Sacha Baron Cohen in 2010 and they have three children, daughters Olive and Elula and a son, Montgomery.
