Not moving, Karate Kid Fans. Your favorite dojo returns to the big screen.

Sony Pictures recently announced that a new Karate Kid movie is in the works, describing it as “the return of the original Karate Kid franchise.” The film’s release date is set for June 7, 2024.

At present, all Cobra Kai fans are probably wondering if there’s a connection between the hit Netflix series and the new movie. While the Karate Kid story has survived for the past few years thanks to the Netflix original (which just launched its fifth season), the new movie will be the franchise’s first since The Next Karate Kid in 1994. (There was also a 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.)

Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz confirmed on Twitter that the new Karate Kid the film is not related to the Netflix series.

“The guys and I would like to do Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movies and hopefully someday,” Hurwitz said. “But this one isn’t from us or focused on the Cobra Kai cast. I don’t know much about it, but I wish him good luck. #KarateKid #CobraKai

The next Karate Kid The film does not have an official studio description, nor a confirmed cast. ThePioneerWoman.com will update this article as more information is released ahead of the film’s June 7, 2024 release date.
