Shiny Review: Moviestorm – A Sims-Style Movie Maker Site

Want to make a movie but don’t have cameras, actors or film crew? Well, the new Moviestorm site has ready-made animation. If you have a story to tell, you can use their SIM-like backgrounds and characters to make a short film.

Download the Moviestorm platform for free, then you can choose from a range of backgrounds and characters, then you can accessorize them and grab a script. The computer game style interface makes it quite simple to understand.

It’s no different from Xtranormal, which we reviewed here seems to be able to do things a little more complex.

I just watched one of the Moviestorm success stories and have to say it’s pretty good. The director / screenwriter has obviously found a way to work with the limits of the device.

What are the main limitations? the faces on the computer-generated characters are not a force, so pointing the camera at other things as they speak seems fine: walking over horizons or following threads around corners. For example. Again, the character’s movements can be a bit stilted, so doing interesting things with the camera shot (focusing on the shadows for example) instead of just pointing it at the characters causes a great sense of tension. .

Here is a video showing how it works:

Interested? go ahead ! instructions on using the site here. And it looks like there are communities and forums set up around the movies if you need any support.
