‘Veronica Mars’ film book series from Rob Thomas – The Hollywood Reporter
Vintage Books Signed Véronique Mars Creator Rob thomas and Alloy Entertainment to a two-book contract to publish a new series of stories based on the popular character’s adult life.
The books will be an original mystery series starring an adult Véronique Mars and the characters in the series.
The plot will pick up where the events of the next Véronique Mars film, scheduled for release in 2014, is ending. The publication of the first book will coincide with the film’s release and will likely happen in the spring of 2014. Thomas will develop and co-write the series.
“I started my career as a novelist. Veronica Mars was first imagined as a novel. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to continue telling Veronica Mars stories in a form I’ve loved and missed, ”said the writer-director, whose other credits include the cult hit. To party and work on 90210 and Dawson Creek.
the Véronique Mars The film gained wide attention earlier this year when Thomas’ Kickstarter campaign to raise seed money for a feature film version of the 2004-07 TV series surpassed its original goal of $ 2 million in days, raising more of $ 5 million in total.
Thomas will work with Alloy Entertainment, a division of Warner Bros. Television Group, on the books. Alloy is the company behind the development of these top-selling YA book series such as Gossip Girl, The vampire diary, Pretty little Liars and The sorority of travel pants.
the Véronique Mars The books represent a kind of reversal of Alloy’s usual process of nurturing successful book series and helping to turn them into popular TV shows.
The combination of Thomas’ creative flair, Alloy’s expertise in YA series development and Vintage’s editorial strength is promising. The book series will be stand-alone, but will also help cross-promote the film and could also serve as a bridge to a possible film sequel.
Vintage editor Andrea Robinson expressed her enthusiasm for the project, “Veronica Mars has always been a one of a kind character and, as a longtime fan of the show, I always felt there was an immense amount of stories to tell. . Our goal for the book series is to woo fans of the series, but also to woo mystery readers and fans of series featuring strong and intriguing female protagonists. Véronique Mars is a contemporary update to the tradition of black detective fiction established by Vintage’s Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandlerso it’s exciting that we’re also posting it here. “
Jodi Reamer at Writer House negotiated the deal on behalf of Thomas and Alloy.
Robinson acquired the books from Vintage, a brand of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, which is a division of Penguin Random House, as part of the deal.
