Daisy edgar jones (Normal people, War of the Worlds) stars in the film, and the production has attracted rising stars Taylor john smith and Harris dickinson take the two men in mind
Deadline has news of Taylor John Smith and Harris Dickinson joining the Where the crayfish sing film casting. The film is directed by Olivia newman with a script from Lucie Alibar, the Oscar nominated writer of Beasts of the Wild South. If you don’t know Delia Owens’ book, here’s the official synopsis:
For years rumors of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the coast of North Carolina. So, at the end of 1969, when the handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the swamp she calls home, finding friends in the seagulls and lessons in the sand. Then comes the moment when she longs to be touched and loved. When two young men in the city are intrigued by her rugged beauty, Kya opens up to new life, until the unthinkable happens.
Daisy Edgar-Jones will play Kya the “Marsh Girl” while Taylor John Smith and Harris Dickinson will play the two young men who will get involved with her. Smith just played a role in sci-fi horror VOD release Shadow in the clouds with Chloe Grace Moretz, and he also recently starred in The outpost and an upcoming untitled action flick starring Liam Neeson. As for Dickinson, we will see him in The king’s man, whenever the Kingsman The franchise prequel ended up hitting theaters and had previously appeared in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
It sounds like the kind of movie that could end up playing at the Sundance Film Festival and possibly making a run for some awards. The book sold 8.5 million copies worldwide and has remained The New York Times bestseller list for 124 weeks, so a lot of people will be interested to see how that translates on the big screen.
As of yet, there is no indication when production will begin or when the film may be released.
